Choral Conducting Workshops

We are excited to announce this opportunity for choral conductors - a limited number of places are available to participate in choral conducting workshops with ZêzereArts Artistic Director, Brian MacKay during the 2019 Festival, from July 13th to 21st, 2019.

Brian MacKay - Artistic Director in RehearsalThe workshops will focus on connecting gesture and sound quality, in addition to addressing choral rehearsal techniques. Successful candidates will work with the ZêzereArts Ensemble alongside participating in the Festival Choir rehearsals and performances. The limited number of places available ensures generous podium time for each participant. The workshops will function as a space for discussion, sharing, reflection and experimentation.

The workshops will take place throughout the Festival to allow for adequate study and practice time between sessions. In order to develop a broad range of skills, successful candidates will work on the interpretation of varied repertoire, from early to contemporary works.

Fees

Successful candidates will be invited to join our scholarship programme supporting the festival music staff. We will require a non-refundable deposit of €250 by May 30th, 2019, with a balance of €450 due by June 30th, 2019, a total of €700. This includes hotel accommodation (B&B in twin rooms - single room rates are available on request), all course fees and full participation in all the Festival activities, which will feature performances of exciting polychoral repertoire at world heritage buildings such as the Monastery of Batalha and the Convento do Cristo.

The applications will be assessed according to the following weighting:            Strength of CV  - 30%
Quality of conducting video - 70%
