The 2020 ZêzereArts Festival Choir mid-week concert:

Mass in G major - Carlos Seixas

The 2020 ZêzereArts Symphonic Choral concert will join the Beethoven 250th celebrations with all choral groups joining together in a programme to include:

Elegischer Gesang op. 118 - Beethoven
"Paixão" - New Work by ZêzereArts composer in residence César Viana
Mass in F major (1842) - Domingos Bomtempo (The last work of this Portuguese contemporary of Beethoven written in the final year of his life)

César Viana has described his new work as follows: "PAIXÃO is a work for choir and chamber orchestra based on sacred Latin texts that focus on work (liturgies of St. Joseph and St. Isidro), melodies that allude to the Passion in popular folk culture (traditional songs sung during Holy Week in the Beira region of Portugal), the classical (Gregorian chant) and working songs of the Portuguese people. The dramaturgy of this Passion is born of contrasts, but also of the similarities of these diverse sources."
