Aoife Hiney - Choral Conductor

Aoife Hiney completed a PhD at the University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal. She also holds a Masters in Music (Performance - Choral Conducting) from UA, and an Honours Degree in Music Education from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.

Aoife has completed conducting courses in Ireland, Hungary, Spain, Brazil and Portugal.  She was the assistant conductor of the award winning chamber choir New Dublin Voices under Bernie Sherlock. Aoife has worked with various choirs in Ireland and Portugal, as a regular or guest conductor, in addition to professional choral singing. In 2012, she founded the chamber choir Voz Nua in Aveiro. Voz Nua have competed in international competitions, released two albums and have performed over 20 world premieres.

Aoife was a committee member of the Kodály Society of Ireland and her teaching experience ranges from primary to third-level education.

The artistic director of FICA (Festival Internacional de Coros, Aveiro), Aoife is also co-coordinator of LABEAMUS (Laboratory for the Teaching and Learning of Musics at the University of Aveiro) and a member of the editorial board of ÍMPAR - Online Journal for Artistic Research in Music. Her research interests focus on the Kodály Concept, adult music education, artistic research, choral singing and choral music by living composers.

She is currently a post-doctorate researcher at the University of Aveiro's branch of INET-md and teaches at the Escola Superior de Educação at the Politécnico do Porto.
