Luís Rendas Pereira - Baritone

Luís Pereira Luís Rendas Pereira first studied at the Instituto Gregoriana in Lisbon. He completed his undergraduate degree (Performance - Singing) and his master's degree (Music Education - Singing) at the University of Aveiro, Portugal.

As a soloist, his oratorio performances include Laudate Dominum (R. de Lalande), conducted by Miguel Jaloto and Vasco Negreiros, with the Camerata Antiqva Orchestra; Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the Orfeão de Leiria, conducted by Rodrigo Queiroz; Dixit Dominus (Handel) and Singet dem Herrn (Telemann) at the ZêzereArts Festival, directed by Brian MacKay, and Charpentier’s Te Deum, with the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, directed by António Lourenço. He was a soloist in Bach’s Cantatas BWV 36, BWV 133, the 4th Christmas Cantata of the Christmas Oratorio and the Magnificat (all recorded by RTP), with the Baroque Orchestra of Casa da Música, conducted by Laurence Cummings and Paul Hillier, who also directed his performance in Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ. Luís performed Mozart’s Requiem in various concerts with the Orquestra Clássica of Espinho, under the baton of Cesário Costa. He also interpreted Das Berliner Requiem by Kurt Weill with the Remix Ensemble, directed by Baldur Brönnimann and was a soloist in Delius’ Requeim, with the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, directed by Vasco Negreiros.

Luís has participated in various operas, such as the role of the Homen in the chamber opera by the young composer Edward Abreu, staged by Rúben Chama. Through the Cursos Internacionais de Música Vocal, he has interpreted the roles of Bob (The Old Maid and the Thief, Menotti) and Buff (Der Schauskpieldirektor, Mozart), with the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, directed by António Lourenço and staged by Claudio Hochman.

He has sung with a number of choirs, and since 2011 has been a core members of the Casa da Música Choir, where he has sung a wide range of repertoire, from medieval to contemporary music, whether chamber works or symphonic works, in which he has performed various solos. He has worked with conductors such as Christoph König, Paul Hillier, Simon Carrington, Philip Pickett, Laurence Cummings, Martin Andre, Michail Jurowsk and Olari Elts.

At the University of Aveiro, Luís was a student of soprano Isabel Alcobia. He studies regularly with Susan Waters and Pierre Mak, and has participanted in numerous masterclasses, in Portugal and abroad, with teachers Francisco Lazaro, Patricia MacMahon, Brian Gill, Peter A. Wilson, Håkan Hagegård, Norma Enns and Stephen Robertson.

Luís was the winner of the 1st prize at the Santa Cecília International Competiton in 2013, and was awarded 3rd prize at the International Competition of the City of Fundão in 2014 and 2016.

Since 2014, he has given a number of recitals with the pianista Rita Seara, at the Teatro do Campo Alegre and Casa da Música (Porto), the Pavilhão Centro de Portugal (Coimbra), Casa de Fralães (Barcelos) Hotel Moliceiro (Aveiro) and at the Festival de Mesnil Saint Martin, France.

Luís teaches Singing and Choral Singing at the Conservatório de Música of Santa Comba Dão, where he also conducts the Coro Magnus D’Om. With these choirs he has prepared and performed various works, including Karl Jenkins’ Gloria, Schubert’s Missa No. 5, and the concerts entitled “A Máquina do Tempo”, with the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra. Luís has taught vocal technique at the annual ZêzereArts Festival since 2015.
